Parents and Educators
Raising strong girls means finding new ways to help them realize their potential. That is what Girl360 is all about. One of our own role models, Marian Wright Edelman, founder of the Children's Defense Fund, once said "If you can't see it, you can't be it." That's why we're on a mission to bring the stories of history's and today's most amazing women to the attention of our next generation of tween girls (9 - 12).
Fun, fresh and fully engaging though this site may be, it's also (and most importantly) an educational tool. We are discoverists finding the back stories behind our favorite female boundary-pushers, making history relevant and inspiring to the next generation.
We encourage you to use our website as a teaching tool. Throughout its pages you'll find history made modern, and facts that are actually fun to learn. To take our virtual world into your real one, consider the following:
Check out BOOK IT, our great books section. Consider organizing a book group that focuses on women who have changed the world. Discussion ideas: What makes these women great? How did they do what they did? What can I learn from them?
Our Girl of The Month section is a great place for girls to learn about the stories of contemporary women who are rocking the world. These stories can be a launching point for a discussion about visionary younger women, cool job possibilities and real ways for your daughters/students to make an impact today.
The interactive Poll of the Month poses important civics questions to girls ("What would you do if you were president?") and allows them to weigh in and read the responses of their peers.
In That's What Friends Are For: True Tales of BFFs, we uncover great stories of women and girls who have been there for one another, supported each other and paved the way for the next generation. Our media landscape is saturated with images that encourage women to compete (recent headlines such as "Who Wore It Best?" and "Catfight!" say it all). "True Tales of BFFs" reminds girls that "sisterhood" and "friendship" are two of the most powerful words in the world (and a heckuva lot of fun).
We want to hear your ideas! To share your thoughts on how you've used Girl360 as an educational tool, email us at info@girl360.net.
